Clubs and Activities Part II

This post I will focus on a few more groups I am in, ASPIRE, Education Club, and College Democrats. ASPIRE stands for Active Students Participating in Responsible Education. It is actually an informal internship, as we do get paid to help out. We have meetings every Monday at noon, and we help the counselors, student health, and career center on our campus with promoting different programs they are putting on. We do everything from helping with depression screenings to making posters for the latest speaker to handing out flyers for alcohol awareness. ASPIRE keeps me very busy, but I like the different outlook it gives me on our campus.

I am the secretary of our Education Club, and this is one of my most active clubs that I am involved with. We have meetings monthly, and we put on programs such as Read Across America and the Girl Scout Bonanza. We have a very large membership, and I suppose that has something to do with the fact that we have so many education majors on our campus.

College Democrats was probably the first club that I signed up for. I am a very active Democrat, and I was quickly disappointed to find out that our College Democrats had about a 5 person membership when I arrived at Mount Marty College. My freshman year, we spent most of our time as a club recruiting more members. My sophomore year, I was the president of our College Democrats, and our membership grew to about 15 people (which was a very big accomplishment!). This year, I had to step down as president as I do not have the time during such a big political year as this one is to run our club. I am now the secretary, and our membership has grown even more. Maybe next year our club could grow to 30 people!!
